Collaborative research center TRR267 on „Non-coding RNA in the Cardiovascular System“ will be continued for four more years! 22 May 2023

The Collaborative Research Center to study non-coding RNA in the Cardiovascular System has been launched in 2019. Now, the German Research Foundation has announced that it is extending funding for the research network led by Goethe University and TU Munich for another four years with Prof. Dr. Stefanie Dimmeler as Co-Speaker.

The scientists investigate non-coding RNAs as potential drugs and already identified several ncRNAs that play a role in cardiovascular disease and could be potential targets for therapeutic drugs.

RNA, or ribonucleic acids, are known to encode genetic information for protein production. Lately scientists have discovered numerous RNA molecules with diverse functions beyond protein synthesis. Some regulate cellular processes like microRNA, while others form complex structures and act as enzymes or switches. Non-coding RNAs are important in cardiovascular diseases and could have therapeutic applications.
