Hands-on Science: Girls‘ Day 2026 at the Institute for Cardiovascular Regeneration

On 23 April 2026, our institute in Frankfurt, as part of the Cardio-Pulmonary Institute (CPI), welcomed seven motivated students for this year’s nationwide Girls’ Day. The event offered girls aged 11 to 16 a unique opportunity to step out of the classroom and dive into the world of cardiovascular research.

Exploring the Heart in the Lab

After an introduction to laboratory safety, the students jumped straight into action. Guided by our researchers, they were introduced to neurovascular interactions in the cardiac system and several experimental methods, including:

  • Cryo-sectioning
  • Tissue staining
  • Confocal microscopy

Inspiring the Next Generation of Scientists

Throughout the day, the participants became increasingly engaged, asking questions and actively contributing to the experiments. We had inspiring conversations with them about careers in science and the possible different paths into research and academia! It was encouraging to observe their growing interest as they worked with laboratory equipment and gained their first practical experience.

Several participants expressed interest in staying connected with our research, which we greatly appreciate. We would be delighted to welcome them again in the future.
